Railing replacement in Oakville for rotted, rusted or wobbly guards

If your old guard moves when you lean on it, railing replacement in Oakville puts a new system on your existing stairs, porch or deck, usually in one to three days.

  • 12 mm tempered glass
  • 100 mm max opening
  • 1.0 kN guard load
  • OBC Part 9 heights

Free on-site measure, in every city we serve

We come out, measure the real stairs, deck or entry and talk through the options at no cost. If you send photos first, you also get a same-day ballpark.

You approve a drawing before anything is cut

Every job starts with a dimensioned drawing that shows heights, spacing and finishes. If something looks wrong on paper, it gets fixed on paper.

One crew, from measure to install

Whoever measures your job is who installs it. You never explain the project twice or chase a subcontractor.

What we usually tear off

Most railings we remove are painted steel that has bubbled at the welds, wood that has rotted at the base, or a builder-grade kit screwed together on site. All three fail in the same place: the connections.

Signs it’s time

  • Posts that move when you lean on them
  • Rust at the base, or paint bubbling at the welds
  • Rotted wood at the posts or spindles
  • Gaps wider than 100 mm, or a guard lower than today’s code heights
  • A home inspection that flagged the railing

Replacing it in aluminum

Swapping to aluminum is the most common upgrade we do, because it won’t rust, rot or need painting. Our aluminum railings are welded in the shop and powder-coated, so the connections that failed on the old guard become the strongest part of the new one.

Replacing it on a deck

On a deck, the new guard goes onto the existing framing, so we check the structure before anything else. Glass, framed glass or aluminum all work as a new deck railing, depending on the view and the budget.

Inside the house

Indoors, a banister replacement usually means trading dated wood spindles or a closed stair wall for glass or slim metal. It opens up the staircase and lets the light through.

Built to today’s numbers

Older guards were often built lower or with wider gaps than the code allows now. Your new railing follows Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code, and the numbers are on your drawing.

Guard height
900 mm when the surface is up to 1800 mm above grade, 1070 mm above that
Maximum opening

How it works

How a job runs, from free quote to walk-through

Five steps, the same on every job, whether it’s a front step or a full deck.

  1. 1. Site measure

We come to your home and measure the actual stairs, deck or entry, free of charge. The written quote comes from real numbers, not a photo and a guess.

  2. 2. Drawing and free quote

You get a dimensioned drawing and a written, itemised quote for glass, posts, hardware and installation. Nothing is cut until you approve it.

  3. 3. Fabrication

We build the railing to the measured dimensions, so nothing gets trimmed to fit on site. Aluminum pickets are welded in the shop and powder-coated.

  4. 4. Installation

The same crew that measured your job installs it, usually in one day at a front entry and two to three days on a deck. We work through the winter, too.

  5. 5. Walk-through

We walk the finished railing with you and check every post, panel and fastener. Your written workmanship warranty comes with the final invoice.

  • A written, itemised quote, with no surprise extras later
  • A dimensioned drawing you approve before anything is cut

Questions

Replacement questions, answered

How long does deck railing replacement in Oakville take?

The install usually takes two to three days on a deck and one day at a front entry. From approved drawing to new railing, plan on about two weeks for an entry and three to five weeks for a full deck.

Can you replace just the railing and keep my deck?

Yes, if the deck framing is sound, the new railing goes straight onto it. We check the framing at the measure, because the new guard is only as solid as what it’s bolted to.

Can you put a new railing on my existing stairs?

Yes, a new guard and handrail can be fitted to your existing steps, inside or out. We measure each step, so the rail follows the stair instead of being forced onto it.

Do I need a permit to replace a porch railing?

Usually not, because replacing a guard on an existing structure doesn’t normally need its own permit. A new deck, a change in guard height or anything that forms part of a pool enclosure generally does, and we tell you which category your job falls into before we quote.

Will the new railing match the rest of the house?

Usually, yes: picket profile, spacing, post cap and colour can be matched closely enough that a new run reads as original. Send a photo with something for scale, and we’ll say honestly whether it will match or only coordinate.

Is it worth replacing a railing before selling?

Yes, a solid new railing at the front door is one of the first things buyers and inspectors notice. A wobbly or rusted guard tends to get flagged in a home inspection, and that can turn into a price conversation.
